I occasionally let people borrow my books, but I think only one person ever has, and she was a trustworthy friend of my mother's. So I wouldn't say I had to teach anyone proper book-handling.
My books are generally in good condition, although there's a red ink-stain on the Autobiography, on Jacques's letter to Jerome, and I can't remember how that got there. And TPP is a tiny bit battered around the corners, as I've been carrying it with me to school.

I used to be really paranoid about my collection....and wouldn't let anyone go within 5 metres of it...but somehow over the past year I have lent my entire series to my sister and 4 friends

All of mine are the U.S. Editions
The Dilemma Deepens box set (TVV-TCC)--I bought these first, off of amazon.com in June of this year when I had scrounged up enough baby-sitting money to buy it, then had to leave to go to a funeral for my grandfather. It came in the mail the day I left, and my mom brought it with her when she came down with my brother, and I immediately started reading them.
The Loathsome Library (TBB-TEE)--I waited 2 months to get this. I kept a bunch of birthday money (I think the actual number wa $60) given to me by distant relatives. My birthday was in August, and the release of TLL was in October. I also ordered this on amazon.com
The Gloom Looms box set (TSS-TPP)--I bought this the day that TPP came out. I still had a bit of money left over from buying TLL, and had done some work for my mother, and still didn't have enough, so my mother lent me some money, until I could work it off.

All of my books are 'loved', all the spines are slightly discoloured and rough on the edges. TBB: I begged Mother to buy after I read someone's book review of THH at school, so I could read it on my holiday. TRR: Received as a Christmas present from an Aunty and took it on holiday with me too. When the price sticker was taken off the front, part of the shiny bit over the picture came off. TWW: Bought in Amsterdam while I was there on holidays. TMM-THH: Bought from local bookstores whenever I had money. TCC-TSS: Bought when I walked by bookstores and realised a new book was out. TGG:Bought soon after the release date. TPP:Tried to buy it on release date but Mother apparently talked to someone from Harper Collins who said it wasn't being released until later. Got in a couple days after. LSUA: Not sure when, I remember being very serious about the keeping the reverse Pony Party cover that way so it didn't fall into the wrong hands.

My brother peeled the letter off the back of the BBRE box, but it's stuck back on now - but it looks slightly crumpled. And the cover of my TGG is slightly dented, due to somebody resting a piece of paper on it as they wrote.

My recently acquired copy of THH has a purple streak across one of the pages, due to my little sister trying to color the pictures in. (I managed to fix it with wite-out. ) I allow people to borrow my books if they return them in good condition (Although I dog-ear my pages, I dislike it when other people do it.)

I'm parodizing TPP, and always seem to lend it to my friend or go on vacation at the exactly wrong time.

Ok, I appreciate the lending and borrowing answers. Too bad for some ASOUE book destructions. Good for that person who got TAA from a special store, with a dust jacket.
Warning:
Reading This Will Make you Scan A Postcard From TUA's Release, or At Least, Make you Provide A Link For Me
Help in this! I'm in need! To anybody, please! I just heard this becasue I have been visiting some threads, and I stumbled upon the one, showing a link to point out the blackened faces, and Lemony in the crown (TUA p. 7), courtesy of a Sir Efogoto.
HHHEELPP! *coughs,cough!*

Yes, I like your sig, but it is rather large.
My siblings are always trying to steal my books. I'm feircely over-protective of them. And I meditate and sometimes even sleep with them. I remember going to sleep with my copy of TPP when I first got it.
