A case can be made that humour is--to quote an erstwhile member here--the backbone of this forum. Which makes sense, since it is also crucial to what makes ASoUE work. Whoever you are, if you're a part of this community, the collective spirit of 667 cannot help but influence you to lace your posts with humour every once in a while; Looking at the fine speeches made this weekend (excluding mine--sorry, this speech should've really been funnier), you can judge for yourself whether this potion has taken an effect on you. Looking at the shoutbox once in a while, many of us can't deny we're wanna-be stand-up comedians. But there's always been a changing handful among us who get noted for rising above the others in terms of quality (and/or quantity) when it comes to being funny. This year four (4) people have been nominated for the prestigious award of FUNNIEST MEMBER.
While the notorious bear (aka bandit) won this award last year, this year he's received zero (0) votes, but at least a nomination. Better luck next year, pal. Germes and Zortegus received three (3) votes each, splitting second place amongst each other. But only one member received as many votes as Germ and Zort combined: The winner of this year's Funniest Member award is.... Comet! Aka A comet crashing into Earth , aka whatever username and avatar he'll come up with to fit the changing times. Despite having been busy with studies in recent months, Comet's good-natured humour has been long deserving of this award, so I'm happy to be the one to present it to you. Congarats, bud! Congrats Stay-at-homet! We appreciate having you with us once again, and having our spirits enlivened by your humour.
Thanks for that amazing banner, Terry: it expresses how I feel very well.

Congratulations - Comet is only the 8th person to win this award - This is Comets 3rd award, having previously won awards the out of context quote award, and (of course) best profile decoration - This is the first time ever that BSam has not been nominated for funniest member, breaking a 12 year streak.

1. Thank you to all who voted for my thread, and to those who contributed to it, and to Hermes for the original nomination, and congratulations to Sora for his (or her?) iconic contribution to MMiscellaneous!
2. Great banners, Terry! I especially like the Most Notorious one, and I hope our founder incorporates it into his signature. (Also, I appreciate the incorporation of the Averse fonts (Futura, Caslon Antique, and Pablo LET?).)
3. Congratulations, Comet!
4. The award for Most Compassionate coming up soon!

It is my honor to represent the people of my generation, who(m?)ever they might be, and present the award for Most Compassionate member. This award goes to the person who has shown the most compassion to others over the past year, and because compassion is a bedrock of community, the award holds a special place among the Germies. There were five nominees for the Most Compassionate award. The four runner-ups, in ascending order of votes, were ... emiliedenouement , whose contributions to the 2020 Book Club show receptiveness to other members’ ideas, enthusiasm about members’ interests, and a willingness to share her own impressions and curiosity with others. trip , who consistently shows grace to others and establishes a sense of camaraderie among members through her observant and often funny remarks. Optimism is my Phil-osophy , who expresses gratitude to others in practically every other post. His fascination with the world and the world of literature in particular is contagious, and we would all do well to emulate the humility with which he approaches his own theories and observations. @jacobm , who cares deeply for the spirits of others and shows this care through his posts. His unique blend of humor and genuine curiosity about other people’s ideas give his persona a warmth usually difficult to capture in words and posts alone. And finally, our winner …. For over a decade, Hermes has shown courtesy and empathy to every member who has posted on 667, no matter how notorious. The reliability of his birthday posts, including for those long absent from the forum, is but one testament to his care for others. As an important and respected member, he sets the example for the rest of us on how to conduct ourselves, and I am thrilled to present him with this award.

Thank you Sherry Ann, and thank you all.
I think this truly is the most desirable of awards, and I am deeply touched by your generosity in awarding it to me. It is especially an honour because it links me with so many excellent people who have also won, Trip, Foxy, Violetbunfortunate, Zortegus, Lorelai, Sophie, Charlie, Anka, Betsy, and above all our beloved Linda, who was the first winner, and the wonderful Emma Squalor, who made it her own for so many years.
I have always tried to promote peace and harmony at 667, and hope that I can continue to do so for years to come.

Congrats Hermes and Comet! Before we move on with what I think is the most important award every year, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on those people who, for one reason or another, departed the forum this year and left a hole in our virtual community. - Carrie E. Abelabudite centered most of her activity on the re-reads and the Netflix show discussion, giving us great analysis and long and interesting posts. She vanished one day and never returned. You'll forever live through your posts (at least until you come back) - veryferociousdrama never changed their name nor their profile decoration, as many other people. Their contributions on the great re-reads and the Netflix show discussion are highly valued and fun, and even though we didn't get to know them much, we hope they eventually come back here. - Foxy quickly became a really loved and important member of our community. Being part of the last wave of new members after the Netflix show finished, she took part of many discussions, threads and activities until one sad day she announced her departure. I think it's the first time I see someone announce their departure on this forum, and I'm impressed she really meant it: after she posted her goodbye, she never came back. She left many awesome things for us to remember her, like her beautiful fanfics or her amazing theories/analysis. We miss her dearly and hope one day she'll come back to share more of her wonderful self with us.

I would also like to take a moment to remember someone who sadly will never come back, who left us two years ago and who we still miss deeply. I'm talking, of course, about Linda Rhaldeen.
For those who didn't meet her, Linda was for sure one of the most important users here. For years she made this forum great, inventing new ways of making this a fun and wonderful place to be. She was one of the most fun, interesting, caring, smart and humble persons I've ever known, and you can see what I'm talking about if you read some of her posts here. She taught me and others so much, not only about Lemony Snicket, Daniel Handler and the ASOUE universe, but also about real life stuff. She passed away after a long fight against disease in 2018 and since then this world is a little bit darker, a little bit sadder.
Even though she's not here to make new posts and greet the new people, I'm glad we still have all her posts to keep remembering her and even know more about here. Even though I became really close to her after I joined the forum, sometimes I read her old posts and I get to know things I didn't know about her and that's something unique and wonderful. She really cared about this place and about all of us here, so I'm genuinely amazed and happy with how 667 Dark Avenue stays alive and getting new members, even when every year I think it'll be the last.
I know I'm not as active as I used to, but I still get here to check on everything almost daily and I love to see how things keep moving and happening amongst old members and new. I'm grateful of people like Jean Lucio who put all their effort, love and energy on keeping this community active, and people like Hermes or Dante who have been around since almost the beginning and are still welcoming new people, taking part of the activities and keeping the old traditions, stories and moments from the past alive. I'm glad when people who didn't post in a long time, like Sherry Ann now or Songbird some months ago, come back and get to know all of us from the new generations. This forum is a special corner of the internet and I hope it keeps blooming for a long, long, long time. I'll make my best to make that happen, and to keep remembering everyone what a magnificent and important person Linda was.

So it falls to me, this great honour, presenting the Linda award for most valued poster. As I have spent most of this ceremony purusing through the annals of award ceremonies past I suppose I may as well continue to do so for this presentation. Over the years, a veritable feast of 667ers have won this award. Namely (to be precise); BSam, Sixteen, Willis, Dante, Sherry Ann, Kyle, Germes, Rellim, Charlie, Myself, Anka, Bee, Lemona, and Zortegus. I think this list speaks volumes. It shows a variety of different members from across the spectrum of the forum, and from across the ages as well. There isn't really any real forrunner in terms of votes, as each year voting tends to head in a different direction. And nobody has ever won this award with more than 40% of the vote. It's always been a close competition. Anyway, let's have a look at this year's nominees. Dante has won more Darkies than any ever 667er, with an astonishing 16. These have a been a huge of Best Volunteer awards, plus some more for Best Pairing, Best Thread, Funniest Member, Most Active, and this very award. He has for many years been our stoutest snicketologist. I think it goes without saying that the forum wouldn't really be the same at all without him. And perhaps we really do the have the Danties to look forward to next year! Foxy is one of our newer members and much missed. Last year she was our Best New Member, our Most Compassionate, and also our most Creative Writer (a feat she has again repeated this year). She represents the new generation of 667ers, not as bustling as before, but nonetheless full of little joys. in @germes we have a 667er who has only won six (!!!!) awards in his many years - Best Volunteer, Most Compassionate (twice), Best Organiser, and twice our Most Valeud Poster. It's a delight for Germes to hosting this years awards, and although other members like bear and Jean Lucio may be more 'memorable' in their recent efforts on the forum, Germes is the one truely keeping this place alive. He is the most deserving of our praise and adoration. He truely cares about this place and us, and I will always be thankful for it. Esmé's meme is meh represents the generation after mine and before the current one, I suppose. Since I first forced him to take part in 667 Big Brother back in 2015 (i think?) He has become one of our greatest and most beloved members. He has won awards for Best New Member, Best Organiser, Best Pairing, Most Compassionate, and has won Most Valued Poster for the last two years. But not this year jeanlucio has dominated this years Germies, so it's only fitting that we end with yet another award for him. For yes, he is our winner for this year (suspense killed.) His unqiue style and long ranging theories have definitley earned him notoriety (for which he won the award last year), but he has also won Best Pairing (acknowleding his rivalry/romance with Dante), and two nods for Best Volunteer, acknowledging his continuing committment to the snicket side of this forum. He has been a stern compatriot in the neverendign war of guys v girls, cheerful observor at zoom hangouts, and general all round good egg. Congratulations on what i'm sure is the latest in many more awards. Jean Lucio is the 15th person to win this award. And he won't be the last. 667 lives on. It's up to us what we make of it.

Congratulations Jean Lucio! It is very well deserved; you have made a wonderful contribution to the board in the last two years, and helped to give it new life.
Thanks Mister M for that splendid speech, and for your excessively kind words towards me.
Jean Lucio has the greatest number of awards (Best Pairing, Volunteer and Most Valued Poster), so it looks as if we will be having the Jeannies nezt year, at least if we follow the official rules.
There are several people I would like to thank:
All our presenters for their splendid speeches.
Our talented band of banner-designers, Zortegus, Sherry Ann, Jean Lucio, Terry and Uncle Algernon.
Mister M for his statistical expertise.
The mysterious personage who created the Germies board and made me a moderator.
And above all Sherry Ann, for running the boutique, for organising the hangout, and for all the help and support she has given me as administrator throughout the awards process. Without her the Germies would not have been possible.
There is now an after-party taking place on Zoom (see Zortegus' link above). All are welcome!
