Welcome to the 2020 667 awards, the Germies!
We live in dark times. Wherever we turn, we are confronted with unfortunate events. Yet, as a wise man once said, the world, no matter how monstrously it may be threatened, has never been known to succumb entirely. Here at 667, we strive to uphold a spirit of hope, through discussion, creativity and fellowship, and in the last few months the site has experienced a revival, as we seek comfort here among the troubles of the world. Today we honour those who have contributed to the life of the site over the last year.
This year is the thirteenth in this series of awards, and so the ceremony has a historical tinge. Presenters will be drawn from every generation of 667, and will include three former awards organisers, as well as historically notable Volunteers, writers and artists. In addition our class historian, Mister M, will be giving us information on the statistical significance of these awards.
Let the Germies begin!

Hey everyone, I'm presenting the best pairing award at this year's (appropriately named) Germies. I don't know why, but I always seem to get roped into these award speeches every couple of years despite not really ever knowing what to say or how to write a good speech, so once again here I am. Best pairing has been an award since the darkies literally started 12(!) years ago, and I was told by Germes to represent the 'people of my generation' in presenting this award (shout out Charlie, Sophie, Sherry Ann, Pen, Bryan, MisterM- I know not all of you still post here or even read this- but most of us joined in high school which I remember was another defining feature of our wee clan). I think the lockdown has made me very nostalgic for times back then (I'm aware I'm already horrifically off-topic in this award speech because of it), and it's definitely given me more time to visit 667 and look back on some fun posts and threads over the 9(?!) years I've been a member here. I remember in 2012/13 there was a big trend in e-marriages again, and I was e-married to Charlie (<3 <3 <3) which ultimately didn't work out as a marriage but we do actually still keep in touch quite regularly off the forum so I suppose that's wholesome. Off the top of my head there was also Sophie and Hermedy (lol), MisterM and Anka (who are engaged irl now!), Pen and Terry and I think Lemona and someone else I don't remember with who? Off the top of my head some other notable parings from my time here are Dante and Antenora, Sherry Ann and celery (if you get this niche reference, nice), Willis and Pandora, BSam and the funniest member award every year, Sixteen and sheep and Bryan and dying in every fanfic and Peppermince and Bear. Alright that's enough self-indulgent nostalgia for one award speech. So the nominees for best pairing this year are (in order of least to most votes): Jean Lucio and Bear Bear and Zortegus Zortegus and tk MisterM and Anka and the winners are.... *suspense* Dante and Jean Lucio Banner by Sherry AnnKind of unexpected! Kind of not maybe. One of our oldest members with one of our newest members, so I guess that's nice. Congrats Dante and Jean Lucio. Your debates are always worth reading, and have brought new life to the Snicket sections.
And thanks for the reminiscences, Bee. (The 'Best New Member' section in Mister M's grand archive post is a helpful guide to what generation people are in, if any of our newer members are interested in finding out.)

Congrats to Dante & Jean Lucio! Here are some stats - Jean Lucio becomes the 26th person to win Best Pairing and Dante becomes the 6th person to have won more than once. - Dante & Jean Lucio won with a massive 63.64%, the highest share in the awards history - This is Jean Lucio's 3rd award, and Dante's (record breaking) 16th - When Dante last won 5 years ago he was, of course, paired with Antenora and tied with Pen and Lariie. Here is the results of that vote. Dante & Antenora are a classic 667 pariring but surprisngly have only gotten a combined total of 4 votes voer the years |

Thank you all!!! It is an honor to win this award, and I really feel that Dante and I have a special relationship ... It is very good to know that you have observed this during this year ... And I am happy to be a new member who has paired with a member as respected as Dante. His opinions really made me rethink a lot, and think about a lot of new things. I'm amazed at how Dante can remember so much, and sometimes I like to subtly annoy him ... But I respect him a lot and I'm still around because of people like him. Thank you again!

Dante & Antenora are a classic 667 pariring but surprisngly have only gotten a combined total of 4 votes voer the years There was a widespread belief for many years that Dante and Antenora are always nominated, which may sometimes have prevented them getting actually nominated. |

(I admit I don't know what "celery" refers to.) This was my favorite line: "... and I was told by Germes to represent the 'people of my generation' in presenting this award."

Well, I'm not sure whether it's appropriate to credit my co-winner, or to blame him; but fair play to Jean Lúcio for the effort he invests as a participant in this forum. He even comes up with the odd interesting idea sometimes.

Thank you all for attending the Germies Awards this year. I was designated as the presenter of the Best New Member award, since I was nominated last year as Best New Member (unfortunately the last winner of this award was unable to attend this year ).
Being a neophyte in a secret organization is a big challenge. You need to decide whether you are just going to observe, whether you are going to act like everyone else, or whether you are going to try to cause changes in the organization. We were all neophytes once, and we made our debut here with a greater or lesser impact on the organization. That is why the award for Best New Member is so important. Because you know that you will be rewarded if you manage to stand out in something here, you will try to do something different, innovative, impactful, creative, fun, or simply notorious, as soon as you start.
catastrophist is evidently someone very important to every ASOUE fan. I will not reveal his secret identity here, but we are all very grateful for his work on the Netiflix series. Still, life is very difficult around here, and it is a catastrophe (maybe a Hermedy) that someone like that got only 1 point. I hope he doesn't abandon us for that. There have been other people who have made great contributions to the ASOUE universe and have not won this award, simply because there were other people who were even more sensational than such, so do not be discouraged Catrosphist. I'm sure your only vote was from a fan who was aware of your great work.
emiliedenouement made a very nice debut in our organization, focusing on what every volunteer should privilege. She started a book club, and made some of us read classics from world literature. She also asked interesting questions, which made us argue and fight with each other, which we all agree is what we most like to do. Despite this, she received only two votes. But I am sure that people who felt touched by her way (her way of being is a loving arsonist [unintentional, but very effective!]) recognized her constructive and destructive potential.
And finally, we had the great champion. With a controversial, disturbing and yet interesting method, TheAsh made us read ASOUE through another point of view. (or at least some of us, or at least one of us). He made interesting theories, and he was an excellent victim of criticism (And like Leonardo diCaprio, he survived the attack of a ferocious mammal). This is a good way to stand out. You received 6 votes and were classified as the Best New Member of the last year.

Congratulations, TheAsh; your work certainly has stood out, and in that regard it is appropriate that your award should be given by Jean Lúcio. A fine speech, too, Jean; as was Bee's reflection on times past, I should note.
