Paterson - I'm glad someone finally asked me something like that. After all, I'm a professional police officer. I'm a volunteer too ... I may be a volunteer disguised as a police officer, but I think I got really good at it. So ... I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that this woman walked a long time before she died. Notice her feet ... That was the first thing I noticed.

I ask Paterson how long he's been on the job and observe the woman's feet.

Paterson - Oh, I've been doing this job since before the schism ... So it's been over 25 years. Christmas Chief looks closely at the victim's feet. They had many burns from hot sand. Certainly she decided to walk barefoot in the hot desert sand.

I add the information to the Commonplace Book and ask Paterson if there are any additional clues we should note before we leave. I also ask Paterson if he has a family and whether he thinks this is a sad occasion.

Paterson - The world is quite here, and unfortunately the world in my family is also very quiet. I am an orphan, and I never married. I am accepting phone numbers for single, divorced, or widowed middle-aged women. Preferably without children, or if there are children, that they do not live with her. Besides, I didn't notice any other clues. But of course, you can find other clues here that I didn't notice. Dante seemed interested in that pen ... I still wonder if he will be able to think of anything interesting about it.

I apply conventional methods for revealing messages written in invisible ink to anything in the vicinity which might conceivably have been written on with invisible ink. Furthermore, I inspect the body for any other wounds which might have gone unnoticed. Lastly, I log the fingerprints of the victim, detectives, and police, and compare them to the fingerprints discovered at the scene.
Next, I propose that we stop at the Penultimate Chance General Store, and then the gas station, to interview witnesses who might have seen the woman or anything else relevant to the case.

I apply conventional methods for revealing messages written in invisible ink to anything in the vicinity which might conceivably have been written on with invisible ink. The group looks around the dark-haired woman's body. There are only sand, crows, living people and the police dune buggy, which had been used to bring living people over there. ("dune buggy" is an expression that here means a word that here means a motor vehicle with large wheels, and wide tires, designed for use on sand dunes, beaches, roads or desert.) Some detectives have started using small light ultra-violet light on the crows' feathers, but there was no invisible ink there. Others began investigating police cars, but there was no invisible paint there. Others began to illuminate each other with ultra-violet light. But there was no invisible ink there. Others lit up the surrounding sand, but there was no invisible paint there. One of the policemen spotted a distant rock. He went over there, and used ultraviolet light in everything he could, and came back with the news that there was no invisible ink there. Paterson - She was a member of VFD, with a pen in her possession and without a commonplace book available. If she wanted to leave a message, where would she write?

I log the fingerprints of the victim, detectives, and police, and compare them to the fingerprints discovered at the scene. Everyone on the scene, including those who had just arrived, amiably provided their fingerprints to Dante . The victim's impressions are also collected. Christmas Chief - I know that crow over there. Munnin, are you? Munnin - Kuah, Kuah. (Yes, Christmas Chief , it's me! How's Terry? And Bear?) Christmas Chief - Munnin, you were the best of your class in fingerprint comparisons. Can you help us now? Munnin - Kuah! (Sure) [Munnin joins your party]. Munnin looks closely at the fingerprints taken by Dante . Then he looks at the pen. Munin - cuá ... cuá, cuá, cuá, cuá. Christmas Chief - He is saying that without a doubt, the only fingerprints on the pen are the victim's own fingerprints.

Furthermore, I inspect the body for any other wounds which might have gone unnoticed. After listening to Muninn's report, Dante takes the ultra-violet light lantern and says: Dante - We haven't looked in one place yet. Not carefully. Before using ultraviolet light, Dante carefully analyzes the body. In addition to sunburned feet, the woman's face, especially her lips, showed evidence of sunburn. Much of the skin was peeling because of the sun. The skin was visibly dry. Then he used ultraviolet light. Suddenly, many violet spots were revealed along the arms and legs of the female body. Dante took a closer look at each of the spots. Dante - She tried to write a message on her body. Unfortunately she must have done this while she was still sweating. I can understand almost nothing of what is written here. But a blurry word seemed to repeat itself. Detectively, the detectives realized it was an 8-letter word. Comparing several of the blots they soon managed to recover all the letters. A-A-A-H-L-L-M-N

I propose that we study the footprints to see how long ago they were made. Paterson - Unfortunately there are no footprints made by the victim around her. Apparently the desert night winds erased human tracks or vehicle tracks.

Next, I propose that we stop at the Penultimate Chance General Store, and then the gas station, to interview witnesses who might have seen the woman or anything else relevant to the case. Penultimate Chance General Store was really big. Greg (an employee) - We are in the high season of adventure in the desert. in the desert. A lot of people come and go at this time of year. The gas station was also very busy. Greg - Oh, I have two jobs ... But as you can see, several dune buggies come by this time of year. And people add their own fuel. I didn't notice anyone in particular. Paterson showed a picture of the victim. Greg - Oh ... This woman ... Did she die? I'm sorry. Let me look closely. Now I'm remembering. I found her attractive, with thick black hair and wearing only a bikini. She didn't get out of the car. She looked tense.

I unscramble the word to read "Mallahan." I ask Greg if there was anyone with the woman. I also ask him for his last name.

I ask Greg if the woman looked familiar. She could be someone famous. Also, did she have green eyes?

I ask Greg if there was anyone with the woman. I also ask him for his last name. Greg - Oh, my name is Gregory Texaco. If I'm not mistaken, there was a man and a woman with her. They were wearing a cap and sunglasses. In fact, most tourists and guides who will have fun in the desert dress like that. I didn't realize who the man or the woman was, but I certainly wasn't one of the guides. Sometimes tourists come with their own cars to venture into the desert. But this is dangerous. I noticed the brunette woman, exactly because she was wearing a different outfit.
