In The Wide Window, they drift off and the Baudelaires say "She still has a chance." Because she has a lifejacket on. Could she return for the meeting at Hotel Denounment? Discuss.

To return, she'd have to be rescued from the lake at some point, or would have to swim to the very edge. The tattered life-jackets they found are quite an ambiguous clue--they could indicate that Josephine had been chewed up by leeches, or that she'd lost her life-jacket but still survived.

Maybe someone else rescued her, and she went to stay at the Hotel Denouement.

It's possible, I guess. A missing body is a potentially live body. I halfway expected her to show up in TGG, having been rescued by Captain Widdershins.

I think that if she was going to turn up, it would have been in TGG - I mean, the Queequeg was even in Lake Lachrymose at the time (and for a long time before that); it picked up some of her books. Speaking of which, I wonder if that means the other half of the U.A.'s V.F.D. Building Committee transcript is now on the Queequeg?

I think that Josephine was in TGG. She could have been the woman who was "using the passageway probably for the last time".
I think that Josephine was never a member of VFD, but Ike was and so she knew vague details about it. She then survived the leeches and tried to find some of Ike's old friends, realising that to survive and to help the Baudelaires she would have to get over her irrational fears. She found some members of VFD and they taught her some codes etc. She was then sent to find the Baudelaires (not knowing they were in the Gorgonian Grotto) because she was the one who knew Lake Lachrymose's waters the best.

Maybe, maybe not. We'll all just have to suffer! Mwahahaha......
......But seriously, it is quite possible that she got stranded on a deserted island in the lake......

Well... "no news is good news" could be put into use here, but as Lemony says, its not a very good saying... so no news is no news "but that goes without saying."
I don't think that she'll turn up again, especially since the Quequeg]was in lake lachrymose at the time.
Which makes me wonder if Captain Widdershins and his crew of two were anywhere nearby when the accident occurs, and even tried to help poor Aunt Jo but failed..
It seems as though, thats not very good input... o well... ;D

Well she might have fled from Lake Lachrymose in fear and is somewhere else.

Possibly, But I don't think so. She's either at Hotel D or dead.

Yes, but if the Baudelaires find Aunt Josephine at Hotel Denounment, will Mr. Poe put them back in her care?

Probably, but he'd still be obliged to escort them to the police station - Josephine included, as he could claim that faking her death had led to considerable unnecessary expenditure on the part of Mulctuary Money Management.

I don't know, I'd say she went hiding in of Count Olaf finding her and she'll return in book 13 and try to do something heroic to make up for hurting the children (emotionally) all that time ago, but will fail :-(
