Let me answer your first question. Olaf WAS in V.F.D. That's why he has the tattoo. When the schism occured, he joined the "Bad Side" that starts the fires. I sometimes think that it might have been Olaf who caused the schism.

That's a good point too, Celinra. Yes, indeed he had better drop the laugh, or I am going to Kill Snicket!!!!Not really.

I have been waiting for a thread that mentions the problems in The Grim Grotto. At first I liked it, mainly because I had been waiting ridiculously long for it to be released. But Widdershins...UGH. No real-life person would be so dumb as to say "Aye!" after every sentence. They could just have him say it every so often, and he would then seem more like a submarine captain, and more like a responsible adult.
The same applies to Olaf. I remember too, Brian, the "good old days," if you will, when Olaf would be a sinister figure that I would be afraid to have met. But he has totally changed throughout books 10 and 11 to become much more ridiculous and pathetic, rather than someone that any group of orphaned children should be afraid of. I can't believe the Baudelaires could still be afraid of him by now. Handler, if you are reading this, I beg you to have Olaf drop the stupid laugh, PLEASE. And PLEASE make him more sinister and scary like he was in the first nine books.
Yes, I did like The Grim Grotto, and all the stuff we learned about V.F.D. in it, but I liked The Slippery Slope more, and I hope Book the Twelfth will be the best yet.

I don't really believe that Mr. Poe is working with Olaf. I think he is just another dim-witted adult who can't/won't help the Baudelaires.

Strange. I don't think they meant to reference it to ASOUE, though.

I find Mr. Poe's general unhelpfulness annoying, as well as Nero's favouritism and personality in general. Hector could have been helpful, being in VFD, but his character flaw prevented him from being any real use. I don't find Carmelita too annoying. Widdershins' catchphrase was irriating. I would have to choose Nero. And just my luck, he appears to be coming back. Yzay. What are you talking about? Did you accidentally post in the wrong thread? Anyway, I voted for pulling the log with gum. That wouldn't work, as gum will keep stretching as it is pulled.

That's kind of a funny one, actually.

This is not what I'd consider a misprint or a mistake, but I'll listen to you.
So you're saying that they shouldn't be able to be adopted by Jerome and Esme because they are not relatives. Well, let me tell you what I think as best I can:
I've come to the conclusion that either everyone in V.F.D. was related to each other, or that the Baudelaire parents considered members of V.F.D. as relatives, even though they might not have been related to the Baudelaires.

My copy of TCC has Normal!Baudelaires at the top, and Freak!Baudelaires at the bottom. Maybe it is a difference between editions, and the British edition of TCC was changed because it was released later. That's exactly what MY TCC looks like. EDIT: THIS is my theory on what happened: A long time ago, in 2002, The Carnivorous Carnival was released REGULAR BAUDELAIRES on TOP, and DISGUISED FREAK BAUDELAIRES on BOTTOM. Then, in 2003, when The Slippery Slope was released, the publishers (or maybe Handler) decided to always put the BAUDELAIRES on TOP, and COUNT OLAF, disguised or not, on BOTTOM. After that, they changed The Carnivorous Carnival to match accordingly, as such: BAUDELAIRES, disguised or not, on TOP, and COUNT OLAF on the BOTTOM. There. As for you PJ, maybe in Australia it is different. According to what everyone has said, this change only seems to apply to Britain and America. EDIT 2: My TCC: Bauds on top, disguised Bauds on bottom, as I got it when it was FIRST RELEASED. My TSS: Bauds in masks on top, regular Olaf on bottom. (2003) My TGG: Bauds in diving suits on top, regular Olaf on bottom. (2004)

Indeed, VioletBaudelaire13, Scholastic does a terrible job publishing the books. Example: The Wide Window's cover background is blurry, The Vile Village has a black ( ) binding, and The Slippery Slope's Scholastic version has the regular pages, but one fifth of the page is empty (the text on each page is small and squished into the top middle).

in my Bad Beginning on the ex libris page it has a picture of stephano. And coincidetally enough in my Reptile Room it has a picture of Count Olaf as himself Yikes. And I thought I had it bad.

Okay, I'll post my mistake here. In TCC, on my Ex Libris page, the Baudelaires are on the bottom where Olaf is supposed to be. I'm not sure this is a mistake though, because around the time the book came out (2002), I saw a pile of them in the bookstore, and they were all like that. But I think they fixed it when TSS came out. Edit: Sorry if I'm bothering you, Dante.

I really don't think TGG will win. Much more likely to win is the almost inconcievable fan base that Harry Potter has built up. There are many more Harry Potter fans that ASOUE fans, but, like someone else said (I'm too lazy to look), it all depends on who knows about the voting and who actually votes, not just who votes for what.
